How to Remove an Object from a Photo on iPhone (and Android)

An unwanted sign, passerby or cable can turn an otherwise useful iPhone photo into a near miss. You can start with the editing tools already on your phone, then use a brush-guided web editor when the built-in result leaves a smudge.

Two ways to remove an object on iPhone

For small distractions against a simple background, try the Clean Up or retouch feature available in your photo editor. It is quick and keeps the work on-device. For a larger object, an object crossing multiple textures, or a result that needs another attempt, use a browser-based AI remover and brush over the exact area.

Neither method restores hidden original pixels. Both create a plausible replacement from the surrounding image, so inspect edges, shadows and repeated patterns before sharing the result.

Method 1: use your iPhone photo editor

Open a copy of the photo, choose Edit, then select the available cleanup or retouch control. Zoom in, make a small selection over the unwanted item, and wait for the preview. Work in separate passes if the item stretches across sky, buildings and ground.

If the tool softens a face or leaves a repeated texture, undo the pass rather than painting a wider area. A smaller selection with a little background around the object usually gives the model a clearer instruction.

Method 2: remove the object in a browser

Open RemoveObjectFromPhoto in Safari, upload the photo and brush over the object plus its visible outline or shadow. Submit the selection, compare the result at full size and download only after checking the rebuilt area. No app installation is required.

This is useful when you need more control than a one-tap cleanup: you can retry a selection, split a complex repair into sections, or use the same workflow from an iPad, Android phone or desktop browser.

Screenshots, Live Photos and Android

For screenshots, crop away status bars first when they are not part of the image. For a Live Photo, edit the exported still you want to keep; a removal on one frame does not repair every frame of the motion clip.

On Android, Google Photos may offer Magic Eraser on supported devices. When it is unavailable or struggles with a complex scene, open the same browser workflow and make a tight brush selection.
