How to Remove a Date Stamp from a Photo

Date stamps are small but visually persistent. They are often bright, high-contrast digits placed on an edge, and older cameras may burn them directly into the pixels. If the image belongs to you, you can crop the mark or use a tight AI selection to rebuild the background.

Why date stamps are harder than they look

A date stamp may sit on skin, fabric or a detailed edge instead of a flat corner. Yellow or orange digits can also tint nearby pixels, so selecting only the character strokes can leave a faint residue.

Use prevention or a crop when possible

For future photos, turn off date imprinting in the camera settings; keep dates in metadata or a file name instead. For an existing photo, crop the mark if doing so does not remove meaningful composition. Cropping is the most faithful option because it does not generate new pixels.

Upload your image, zoom in and brush over every digit plus a small edge around it. Keep the selection close to the stamp, submit it, then review the repair at full size. If the stamp crosses two very different textures, process each section separately.

For scanned prints, keep the evidence

Make a copy of a scanned family photo before editing. A printed date can be useful historical information even if you prefer a clean display version, so label the edited copy rather than replacing the source scan.
